Honorary Doctorate Conferred Upon Shri J. M. ‘Meenu’ Malhotra DL at KISS University

The Consulate announces that Shri J. M. ‘Meenu’ Malhotra DL, Honorary Consul General of India in Newcastle, UK, and Chairman of Malhotra Group PLC, was conferred the Doctor of Letters (D.Litt., Honoris Causa) by the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) University, Bhubaneswar, during its 5th Annual Convocation held on 30 November 2025.

KISS University, recognised as the world’s largest residential institution exclusively for tribal and Indigenous students, currently supports more than 80,000 learners. The University’s work in the field of education, social empowerment, and community development has earned global recognition, including UN-ECOSOC Special Consultative Status and the UNESCO International Literacy Prize 2022.

Addressing a gathering of over 40,000 students and dignitaries, Consul Malhotra reflected on his personal journey and the evolving opportunities for Indian talent worldwide. In his speech, he stated:

“My achievement is not mine alone. It is a testament to the immense support of my mentors, my family, and the thousands of employees who work with me as a community and as a family.”

Consul Malhotra dedicated the honour to those who have supported his path and highlighted India’s growing global leadership across sectors such as technology, healthcare, education, and finance. He commended KISS University and its Founder, Prof. Achyuta Samanta, for their transformative role in empowering tribal and Indigenous communities through holistic, fully funded education.

This recognition underscores Consul Malhotra’s longstanding contributions to community development, philanthropy, business leadership, and India–UK relations.
